Bicycle
The creation Bicycle
Friendships which started even from childhood need very much effort to maintain and flourish. We generally expect them to remain in our lives forever.School and University life was a challenge and enlightening experience for me. It facilitated my personal growth and development and provided me with lifelong attributes. A rainbow of cultures….. The blossoming of friendships…… the beginning of new life… everlasting memories…ultimately, the best days of my life …. ; Still it flows ….
Our friends help us to develop self-esteem, self-awareness, and self respect. They also help us become socialized into new roles throughout adulthood. In adulthood a person's life satisfaction is strongly related to the quantity and quality of contrasts with friends. People tend to have more friends and acquaintances during young adulthood than at any later period. As they grow older, and particularly if they marry and have children, their network of friends shrinks significantly. Although their numbers decline further in later life, friendships are still very important.
A number of consistent themes underlie adult friendships. Canadian and US researchers, now at San Francisco State university, have summarized these into broad categories. Those dimensions are found in friendships among adult in all ages. Already I wrote few more poems in additions to this creation on this concept. In future you may read more articles and poems under this broad and interesting subject. Please keep in touch.
Please read the poem " Bicycle බයිසිකලේ " and write your feelings.
Bicycle බයිසිකලේ is the edited version of "Youn Wiye Paara Dige - යොයුන් වියේ පාර දිගේ" published in "Mawbima" newspaper - Sri Lanka and FB.
Enjoy life.

Rideau River
Rideau River

Puppet
The poem published in Sunday Rivira Newspaper on 15-05-2016
Puppet, a movable model of a person usually with a strove body and hollow head, is an entertaining or fearful character. Sometimes an outside force or influence controlled its actions.

Wild Jasmine
There are many advantages of a
multicultural society. It
leads to create an open minded population and people start to see situations
from another point of view. The society can enjoy different arts, foods, cultures,
religious beliefs, habits, practices and ethnic rituals.
However there still have
disadvantages with living in a multicultural society. Social conflict occurs due to
differences in religious or cultural beliefs. It has been noticed that conflicts arose mainly during
financial crisis or due to lack of social development programs. Sometimes, love
and friendships made strong bonds among any ethical groups.
Canada is the leading nation that can
be called multicultural societies.
Minority Influence
The power of social influence
includes the individual’s power to influence the group. Social history is often
made by a minority that sways the majority. Were this not so, women would still
lack the right to vote, communism would not have spread beyond Marx and Engels,
and Christianity would be a small Middle Eastern sector. Technological history,
too, is often made by innovative minorities who overcome the majority’s
resistance to change. The railroad was first viewed as a nonsensical idea; some
farmers even feared that the noise from trains would prevent hens from laying
eggs.
To understand better how minorities
can sway majorities, social psychologists in Europe have investigated groups in
which an individual or two consistently expresses a controversial attitude or
an unusual perceptual judgement. One repeated finding of this research is that
a minority that unswervingly holds to its position is far more successful in
swaying the majority than is a minority that waffles. Holding consistently to a
minority opinion will not make you popular, but it may make you influential,
especially if your self-confidence stimulates others to consider why you react
as you do. Although people often comply publicly with the majority view, they
may privately develop sympathy for the minority view. So even, when a minority’s
influence is not yet visible, it may be persuading some members of the majority
to rethink their views.
As the life of Mahatma Gandhi, in
India as well as in South Africa, powerfully testifies, a consistent and
persistent minority voice can sometimes sway the majority. Gandhi was often vilified and imprisoned. But
his appeals and facts on behalf of nonviolence in the struggle for Country’s
independence eventually won that independence.
There are many advantages of living
in a multicultural society. It leads to create an open minded population and
people start to see situations from another point of view. The society can
enjoy different arts, foods, cultures, religious beliefs, habits, practices and
ethnic rituals.
Sometimes, love and friendships made
strong bonds among any ethical groups.
