Winter is here, in the northern hemisphere, the leaves are gone and the trees are naked, the grass is hidden beneath the snow, and the ducks in the lakes are ice skating instead of swimming. Landscapes are recognizable even though they look incredibly different when compared with the pictures of the opposite season.

 මයුරපාද මැදි විදුහලින් පෑයූ රන් තාරුකා

නව පරපුරේ ප්‍රවීණ සංගීතඥ, විශාරද Darshana Wickramatunga යන්ගේ අපූරු ස්වර රචනයෙන් වර්ණිත ගීත යුගලයක් පසුගිය දා YouTube චැනලය වෙත මුදා හැර තිබිණි. නිර්මාණ යුගලයේම සංගීතය බොහෝ ගායක ගායිකාවන්ගේ ජනප්‍රිය ගීත සඳහා ගී තනු නිර්මාණය කොට ඇති Darshana Wickramatunga සොයුරාගේ වීමත්, ගීත ගායනයේ යෙදෙන යෞවණියන් දෙදෙනා අතරත් බොහෝ සමානකම් සම්බන්ධකම් තිබෙන නිසාත්, එකී මිහිරි ගීත යුගලය ගැන මට දැනෙන හැඟෙන දේ පොදුවේ ලියන්නට සිතුණි.

මින් පළමු ගීතය වන "මේ තරම් දැණුනේ ME THARAM DANUNE" නම් ගීතය ගායනා කරන්නේ Derana Dream Star Season 6 තරඟයෙදී අනු ශූරතාවය දිනාගත් Yashodha Priyadarshani Wijesinghe වන අතර දෙවන ගීතය වන "බිඳී විසිරුණු BINDEE WISIRUNU" නම් ගීතය ගායනා කරන්නේ Derana Dream Star Season 9 තරඟයෙදී අනු ශූරතාවය දිනා ගත් Nuwandhika Senarathne යන යොවුන් ගායන ශිල්පිනියන් දෙදෙනායි. ඔවුන් දෙදෙනාම නාරම්මල මයුරපාද මධ්‍ය මහා විද්වි‍යාලයෙන් පහළ වූ තාරුකා දෙකකි. ජන ගී ආරත්, රාගධාරී සංගීතය, උත්තර භාරතීය සංගීතය හා බටහිර සංගීතයත් හදාරා ඇති මේ යෞවණියන්ගේ අපූරු හඬ පරාසය හා හඬ පෞරුෂය එකී තරඟාවලි දෙකෙහිදී අපි අත් වින්දෙමු.

මේ නව නිර්මාණ යුග්මය, අනූපම වූ කාව්‍යමය ගුණයෙන් හා සරල සුගායනීය ගී පද වලින් සුපුෂ්පිතය. එහි පබැඳුම් කර ඇත්තේ සුභාවිත ගී රැසක නිමැවුම් ශිල්පියකු වන නව පරපුරේ ගේය පද රචක Sugath Somaweera යන් හා ගේය පද රචිකා Lakmali Karunanayake ය. හිමි වූවද අහිමි වූවද සැබෑ ආදරය ජීවිතයේ පතුලට කිඳා බසී. එකී ආදරයට විලාසිතාමය අර්ථකථනයක් වෙනුවට සහෘදයාත්මක වින්දනීය අර්ථකථන දෙන ගේය පද රචනා මෙන්ම ස්වර රචනයත් හැඟීම් ගායනාත් රසිකයා මන්මත් කරණු ඇති.

ගමටත් උසස් අධ්‍යාපනය හා ඉංග්‍රීසි අධ්‍යාපනය නම් C. W. W. Kannangara මැතිතුමාගේ සංකල්පය යටතේ 40 දශකයේදී දිවයින පුරාවට මාධ්‍ය මහා විද්‍යාල 52 ක් ප්‍රතිස්ථාපනය කරන ලදි. මතුගම මධ්‍ය මහා විද්‍යාලය එහි ප්‍රථම නිර්මාණය විය. දෙවැන්න 1941 පෙබරවාරි 3 වන දින පිහිටුවන ලද මා උගත් ඉබ්බාගමුව මධ්‍ය මහා විද්‍යාලයයි. ඉන් වසර තුනකට පසුව නාරම්මල මයුරපාද මාධ්‍ය මහා විද්‍යාලය ආරම්භ විය. අතීතය පුරාවටත්, අප පාසැල් සමයේදීත්, අදත් මේ විද්‍යාල දෙක සහෝදරත්වයෙන් බැඳුණු මිත්‍ර පාසැල් විය. එදා ක්‍රීඩා තරඟ වලින් අප ඉදිරියෙන් සිටියද සාහිත්‍ය තරඟ වලින් ජය ලැබුවේ මයුරපාදයයි. අද ද එය එසේම ය. ඊට හොඳම නිදර්ශන Yashoda Priyadharshani හා Nuwandhika Senaratne නම් යෞවණියන්ගේ අපූරු ගායන හා ප්‍රාසාංගික හැකියාවන් ය. මේ වටිනා ගීත යුග්මය නිර්මාණ කළ කලාකරුවන්ට අපේ ප්‍රණාමය හිමි විය යුතු වේ.

ළා සඳ මඬල - ගීත විචාරය

 ළා සඳ මඬල ගීතය මට දැනෙන හැටි.......

මනෝරි කෞෂි දිසානායක පද රචනය කොට ඇති මේ මිහිරි ගීතය සවනත මිහිරියාවෙන් පිරී ගිය දා සිට දැනෙන හැඟෙන දේ ලිවීමට සිතූවද දහසක් රාජකාරි මැද එය අතපසු වුණි. රසික හදවත් තුළ සංවේදී ප්‍රේමනීය වින්දනයක් ජනිත කරවන්නා වූ මේ නිර්මාණය මනෝරි කෞෂි දිසානායක නම් ප්‍රතිභාසම්පන්න කිවිඳියගේ ගේය පද වලින් වර්ණිතය. සුපුෂ්පිතය. ද ඇසෙන බොහෝ අරුත් සුන් බොහෝ ගීත අතරේ මෙවැනි අගනා නිර්මාණයක් රසවිඳීමෙන් ලැබෙන්නේ තෘප්තියටත් වඩා මානසික සුවයකි.

පවතින සමාජ, ආර්ථික හා පාරිභෝගික සංස්කෘතියෙහි ගිලී පිඩාවිඳින අහිංසක ප්‍රේමවන්තයින්ගේ, අඹු සැමියන්ගේ කෙටි කාලීනව, දීර්ඝකාලීනව හෝ සදාකාලිකව දුරස්වීම් හේතුවෙන් වියෝ දුක උසුලනා ස්ත්‍රීන් අද සමාජයේ බහුල වේ. එවන් අහිංසකාවියකගේ වැලපුම ප්‍රේමයේ මෙන්ම විරහවේ ද චමත්කාරය රමණීය බව හා ප්‍රේමාලාපයෝ රචිකාව සම කරන්නේ යසොධාරාවගේ වැලපුමටයි. සඳැස් කාව්‍යය නිර්මාණකරණයේ හසළ නිපුණතාවයක් ඇති ඈ මෙහිදී උපයෝගී කොට ගන්නේ යසෝධරා වතේ කාව්‍ය ආකෘතියයි. රිද්මයයි. එහි එන ශෝකී රසයයි.

කාරණාව බුදු වෙනවා ලකුණු දැනේ

නෑර කැටුව ආවා මම සරණ ගෙනේ

භාවනාව තොර නොකරමි සිතින් අනේ

මාළිගාව අද අඳුරුයි ස්‌වාමිනේ

සුවඳ බොජුන් වැළඳු මගෙ හිමි සඳට

නිබඳ බොජුන් රස කර දුන් වළඳන්ට

සුවඳ පලාපල වැවියන් හිමියන්ට

සුවඳ මල් නිතර පිපියන් රන්කඳට

යසෝධරාවතේ කාව්‍ය ආකෘතිය හා රිද්මය උපයෝගී කොට ගත්ත ද ඇගේ පද රචනය ඈටම අනන්‍ය වූ පරාසයක රඳවාගෙන කර ඇති ගී පද රචනය අනර්ඝයි. ඇගේ රචනයේ ආරම්භක පද පෙළ රසිකයා ප්‍රේම රසයෙන් මන්මත් කර මේ ගීතය වෙත අද බැඳ තබා ගන්නා අතර ගීතය පුරාවට ප්‍රේම වියෝවේ ශෝකී රස භාවයන් දනවා රසිකයා සසල කර අවසාන පද පෙළින් වඩාත් සසල කරණු ඇති.

දර්ශන වික්‍රමතුංග නම් වූ අග්‍රගන්‍ය සංගීතඥයාගේ සංගීත ප්‍රතිරචනය ප්‍රසංශනීයයි. පද රචනයේ ප්‍රකාශණය නැවතූ තැන් සිට ඉදිරියට ශෝකී ප්‍රේමනීය රස භාවයන් ඉස්මතු කරගැනීමට මං සලසනවා. සුරම්‍ය නාද රටා මේ ගීතය පුරාවට සුවඳ දනවනවා. නින්නාද දෙනවා.

ගායනවේදය කලාවක් මෙන්ම විද්‍යාවක්ද වෙයි. ගායනයෙන් තොර ගීතයක් නැත. පද රචකයාගේත් සංගීතඥයාගේත් අභිප්‍රායයන් මත කෙරෙන ගායනය එහි අතිශය දියුණු තියුණු ඉසව් කරා ගමන් කරවන ශානිකා සුමනසේකර නම් ඇගේ මධුර කටහඬ හා භාවපූර්ණ ගායන ලීලය නිසාම ශ්‍රාවකයා ඇගේ පෙර ගීත කෙරෙහි ආසක්ත වූවා සේම මේ නිර්මාණය ද යළි යළි ආස්වාදයෙන් රස විඳිනු ඇත. ඇගේ බොහෝ නිර්මානවල මෙන්ම මේ ගායනයද ප්‍රභලව රසභාව දනවයි.

සුබාවිත ගීත කලාවට අනඟි මෙහෙවරක් කරන කලාකරුවන් තිදෙනෙක් එක්ව නිර්මාණය කර ඇති මේ සුන්දර ගීතයේ මිහිර අදත් හෙටත් හැමදාමත් ශ්‍රාවකයා අත් විඳිනු ඇත.

Canada celebrated the 150th anniversary of Confederation on July 1, 2017
The Ottawa Hub of the World Economic Forum was hosted a "Humans of New York" style outdoor photo exhibit called "MyCanada150" to illustrate Canada’s commitment to pluralism. The photo exhibit launched on Canadian Multiculturalism Day, June 27, few days prior to the Canada Day celebrations, along Sparks Street in the heart of the nation's capital.
Enjoy some scenes captured by my camera and the photos of people from around the world who have made Canada as their home and their inspiring stories about Canada.
I missed lot of golden opportunities, the Canada Day celebrations, as I had to stay away from home, Ottawa, due to my work schedule.

All trees cry at night - හැම ගහම රෑ හොරෙන් අඬනවා

Birds and trees which sing in the Morning, sometimes, cry at night.
I wrote the poem "All trees cry at night - හැම ගහම රෑ හොරෙන් අඬනවා" for the "Rivira" Newspaper _ Sri Lanka (published on October 16, 2016) and for the "Hanthana Pawra" The news letter published by the Alumni Association of the University of Peradeniya - Ottawa Chapter.
One the most colorful and romantic photograph taken in last summer in Canada was attached to this too.

The South Wind & නොපිපි එරබදු

People leave their homeland and migrate to a developed country to have a better life, even if they know that they would be facing harder times. They take all the chances in the hopes of succeeding. This is mainly known as "economic migration". Political instability such as persecution, violations of human rights & Internal conflicts are other push factors of Migration. Education, socio-cultural factors, demographic factors, environmental and individual attitudes are also associated with migration.


Even though, immigrants gain more values from the newer culture, same time, they lose many of their native socio-cultural values. They have less chance to preserve their original culture, language, and traditions and transmit them to their kids. Most of the times, it may result to a conflict between the native and the newer culture.

සිය ජීවිතවලට වඩා සුව පහසුව හා සුඛ විහරණය පතා බොහෝ සංක්‍රමිකයෝ සිය නිජබිම් අත්හැර දියුණු රට වලට සංක්‍රමණය වේ. අලුත් රටක, සංස්කෘතියක, පරිසරයක හෝ ජිවන රටාවකට හුරුවීමේදී නොයෙක් අපහසුතා වලට මුහුණ දීමට සිදුවෙතැයි දැන දැනම ඔවුන් එසේ සංක්‍රමණය වේ. මෙය "ආර්ථික සංක්‍රමණය" නමින් හැඳින්වේ.
ඔවුනට උපන් රටවලදී විඳීමට සිදුවූ අසාධාරණකම්, වධහිංසා, මානව හිමිකම් උල්ලංඝනය, යුධ හා අරගල, දේශපාලනමය අස්ථාවරත්වය යන දේශපාලනම හේතු ජනයා සංක්‍රමණය සඳහා පොළඹවන අනෙක් ප්‍රධානතම සාධකය වේ. අධ්‍යාපනය, සමාජ සංස්කෘතිකමය හේතු, ජන විකාස තදබදය, දේශගුණික හා පුද්ගල ආකල්පද සංක්‍රමණයට හේතු වන අනෙක් සාධක වේ.
නව දේශයකදී සංක්‍රමිකයනට බොහෝ දේ ලැබුණද, ඔවුනට අහිමිවන බොහෝ වටිනාකම්ද ඇත. මව්බස, ස්වදේශ්‍රීය දේශජ උරුමයන් හා අගයන් ඊළඟ පරපුරට දිය නොහැකිව ඒවා ඔවුන්ගෙන් ක්‍රමයෙන් වියැකී ගිලිහී යන්නට හැකි හැකියාව වැඩියි. බොහෝ විට නව පරපුර අලුත් රටේ සංකෘතිය ක්‍රමිකව වැළඳන්නට ඇති ඉඩකඩ වැඩිය. මුල් සංස්කෘතියත් රැක ගැනීමට අවැසි නම් සිය නිජබිම අදාළ ඥාතී මිතුරන් හා ශක්තිමත් බැඳීම් අවැසි වේ.

When snow in the dark blue clouds fall
soft white crystals glistening.
The sky and forest painted
by the white silky veil.

Sound of a lonely lark
who flew to sleep early evening
got up early in the morning
start to sing, the spring song.

Tulip Festival 2017 - Ottawa ON Canada

The tulip has become the symbol of friendship (The symbol of gratitude) between the Netherlands and Canada. The Canadian Tulip Festival for 2017 to mark its 65th anniversary during Canada’s 150th Birthday with various activities to delight all Canadians and visitors around the world. The tulip has become the symbol of friendship between the Netherlands and Canada.

The Poson Festival

The full-moon day in June, cities and villages of Sri Lanka get lit up with brightly colored lanterns and pandals to commemorate the Poson Festival, the arrival of Buddhism in the island 2300 years ago. Arahat Mahinda, son of Emperor Asoka of India, brought the message to King Devanampiyatissa of Sri Lanka in the 3rd century BC.
These flowers remind me the colors of lanterns we lit up in our childhood.

මිහින්තලා තුරු අරණේ මල් පිපුනී
ද්වේශ මෝහ රාග අඳුරු සිත් නිවුනී
සපිරි කලා පුර සඳ අහසේ දිලුනී
පහන් සිතක මෙත් සුව තරු කැට මැවුනී 

මේ මල් දුටු විට මට මතක් වුනේ අපි වෙසක් හා පොසොන් පෝයට ඉටිපන්දම් වලින් පත්තු කරපු බකට් ලාම්පු හා වෙසක් කූඩු. රෑට පන්සල් ගිහින් එනකොට සමහර බකට් ලාම්පු ඒ ඉටිපන්දමටම පිච්චිලා. සුළඟ හා එක් වෙලා. හාමුදුරුවෝ පන්සලේදී බණට කිව්ව සියලු දේ අනිත්‍යය යන්න අපිට සිහිපත් කරමින්ම. මැයි මාසේ පිපුණු මේ මල් අද එතැන නෑ.
